The internet isn’t a sparsely population virtual world anymore. Just about everyone you know is online – even those older generations who claim they know nothing about computers are now learning to log on, check email and socialize with distant friends and family. People are social networking from their cells – logging into Facebook, Tweeting about their everyday actions.

As people become more comfortable and more experienced using social media, the awareness of social media becomes high among small businesses.

According to studies from Vistaprint and Ad-ology, small businesses will be doing even more marketing online in 2010. The study found that small businesses would be increasing marketing activities in social media, online and search advertising, and e-mail marketing.

As reported in a recent article in eMarketer’s indicated that small businesses are using and benefiting from marketing with social media. “Sales lead generation and online brand monitoring are two of the most prevalent uses of social media among small businesses”.

Facebook was rated as the most beneficial social media platform for small businesses.


Social Media is rooted in relationships, the dynamic interaction and collaboration between real people. Social networking was once a way for share information and opinions – it’s so much more than that now. It paved the way for marketers, business to immerse themselves in communities where consumers were lurking, converting peer traffic into click-through and sales.

Social Media is much bigger than any one network or any one voice. It’s the distribution of dialogue and the democratization of content creation and publishing that has equalized influence.
