Two Free Tools to Protect Your Blog from the Badlinks

What will happen after you work so hard to build a ranked page and then have other hack into it? As marketing on the web, search engine optimization is one of the must tasks you have to do, do SEO work for your site isn’t that hard, its just time consuming and you have to do it in a consistent way. However, if hackers got involved with your site, then the things can become more complicated.

Its the true fact that spammers, scammers and hackers are care about search engine optimization (SEO) and ranking on search engine results pages (SERP) too. A study by Google recently found that more than half of malware sites (60 percent!) embed popular keywords to beef up their SERP ranking and share their criminal wares. But good thing is Google and Bing are on the scam, they are working hard to detecting the malware sites and ban them from their indexes.

As you know link building is one of the most important part of a SEO (Search Engine Optimization). A good backlink building campaign helps your site or blog’s ranking position, as well as driving quality targeted traffic to your site. Below are the two free tools that help you to protect yourself from those bad backlinks or site association.

SiteAdvisor

McAfee offers SiteAdvisor, their site and link scanning tool, a free browser plug-in that gives safety advice about Websites before you click on a risky site. With SiteAdvisor software installed, your browser will look a little different than before. They add small site rating icons (‘green light – which features a check mark’) to your search results as well as a browser button and optional search box. Together, these alert you to potentially risky sites and help you find safer alternatives.

Web of Trust Tool

Mozilla Firefox offers their Web Of Trust (WOT) Safe Browsing Tool. This is an add-on, safe surfing tool for your browser, it is not a security upgrade. The traffic-light rating symbols show which websites you can trust when you search, shop and surf on the Web.

The tool works with your browser (it’s compatible with more than just Mozilla Firefox) to scan links and sites and rates their trust level with an easy to understand traffic light display. Green means go, a yellow icon means think before you click, and a red light raises a warning screen.

It works with Google, Yahoo and Bing search as well, so when you search something, you can see what links and sites on the SERPs contain malware. It also works with the corresponding email servers (gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail) to protect your personal information and your computer.

As so many of marketers are using social media and social networking sites to help their SEO efforts, and so do hackers and phishers. Twitter recently announced their plans to set up their malware defense, as well as Facebook.

The tools mentioned above will detect fishy (and phishy) links, but you do need to be hyper-aware. When you are on the social networking sites, be careful about accepting friend requests, make sure your Facebook Privacy Settings protect any personal information, and don’t download anything from any unfamiliar site and Stay Safe Online
