Have you heard this saying “Instead of picking resolutions, pick one word you want to live by.” A new idea going around this year for setting resolutions.
If you want to make more revenue, gain more profit, attract more customers, want to have the best year for your business and your life, that one word you should choose is “Marketing”, because that is the only mindset that will make your business grow.
Take a few minutes today and look at your 2012 Marketing Plan (if you don’t have one yet and if you’re serious about achieving your goals this year, you need to put one together as soon as possible)
Dan Kennedy, a marketing genius, a well-known figure in the marketing arena since the 70’s and the world millionaire-maker says, “Each month you should think of your business as a new book coming out, with you as its author, in a desperate and urgent race to make sure it doesn’t die on arrival and sells a respectable amount of copies to stay on bookstore shelves for months to come.”
To help you treat your business as if you are “the author with a new book coming out each month,” here are three marketing makeover tips that you can apply to your 2012 plan:
1. Do More and Do Different Stuff
Dan says, “If you want a good New Year’s resolution, it’d be to do more stuff, constantly, to kick up such a storm around you that you start feeling in peril of not being able to handle it all.” What can you add to your Marketing this year that will help you consistently kick up new clients?
Pick something new to add to your marketing this year that you aren’t already doing. Test it and give it a fair try.
For instance, if your business is all online, then consider to join direct mail pieces to your customers this year, or book some speaking engagements to start to attract new customers, or send out press release to the media whose focus market also your target audience and get your stories out.
2. Market Yourself Every Single Day
Dan says, “I do at least one thing each day to prod, poke and rustle up business every day. What can you do each day to move business your way? This doesn’t have to necessarily take a lot of time.”
Sales are influenced by predictable events, but marketing is not. So do something different and market yourself everyday.
For example, you can make phone calls to customers you haven’t heard from in a while to find out how you can help them, or, you can send an article to a prospect about something you think it can help them, or, spend fifteen minutes a day to engage in conversations on the social media sites with your customers and prospects.
3. Put Everything You Do in a “Financial Frame”
To make your financial goals success, you need to look into each pieces towards what your marketing goal is, and then package them accordingly.
One of the great way to market your business and raise your profile in your field is to write a book.
Speaking of writing a book, if you plan to do it, before you print your book, think about how you want to use it.
If you want your book in a “shock and awe” package, it should have a hard cover. If you want to get your book into a bookstore, softcover is the route you’d take. Or, if you want to sell it from the front of the room at a speaking engagement, you’ll want a big book format.
Same product comes with different formats will work better than just with one format. Of course, it has to depend on your audience as well. Take some of your time to think about it, such as, what kind of result and accomplishment you want each campaign to make, what kind of format will work better for you and so forth.
The thinking exercise looks like need you get into lots of detail work, but after a while, your time will get paid off.
So when you work on your marketing plan, add at least one thing to your plan each day (no matter how small and big), just make sure you aren’t put too much of your marketing resources into one event, month or season.
Find at least one new marketing technique to add to your business this year, make a note to check each campaign to make sure that the details are match up with your goals and target audience.
When you do above these, you’ll be surprised at how much these can change your business, it will help you create not only more income, but more consistent stream of income, as well as a valuable customer base.
